The music program at Southeast Polk has over 180 students participate every year at the high school level, across 6 different bands, and prides itself on being inclusive to all students.
The Southeast Polk Band Program excels in developing well-rounded musicians through comprehensive instruction and performance opportunities in marching band, wind ensemble, symphonic band, and jazz band. With a focus on musical excellence, discipline, and teamwork, Southeast Polk Band program fosters leadership, dedication, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

➤ MARCHING RAMS PHOTOGRAPHY
When: Friday, September 4th - 6:00-7:30pm @ SEPHS - exact location TBD
Who: Seniors required, 9-11 optional
Why: Photos will be used for senior banners. 9-12 students will receive a link to a online store where prints can be purchased
How: Just show up, no need to sign up for a time, just arrive between 6-7:30pm for a uniformed photo.

CONCERT ENSEMBLE UPDATES
➤ FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL
All students should bring their CHARGED CHROMEBOOKS & instruments to class EVERY DAY.
Symphonic Band meets during the 3rd period block (Monday)
Jazz One meets during the 2nd period block (Tuesday)
Wind Ensemble meets during the 6th period block (Tuesday)
Returning band members will use the band locker they were assigned last year. Now would be a good time for them to go back in their records searching for the combinations to their locks! New band students will receive locker information during class.

➤ BAND COMMUNICATION
Parent communication
We know parents receive a TON of emails/messages from the school. In an effort to streamline our communication, we are making some changes for 2026-27.
Band Parent communication will now be sent exclusively through email (Presto and/or Infinite Campus).
Parents no longer need to register for Remind (though you are welcome to if you wish to receive all student messages).
Band updates will be the primary means of communicating all program information and will be sent out bi-weekly. Please read these updates!

Remind messages will be sent for reminders, last minute changes to plans, etc.

Communicating with a director (students/parents)
Email and phone remain the best way to contact a director. Contact information can be found at the bottom of this email.
➤ PRIVATE LESSONS
We highly encourage students to consider taking private lessons with an expert on their instrument, outside of school. Students that study privately demonstrate a huge level of growth and it provides them access to someone that has a deep understanding of their instrument, accountability for regular practice, and often access to additional performance/collaborative opportunities
When considering private lessons, please contact the directors (WW’s - Mrs. Meunier, Brass/Perc - Mr. Schott) as we have a running list of private lesson instructors around the metro. We can make specific recommendations based on your student’s needs, financial needs, distance, etc.
➤ INSTRUMENT UPGRADES
We encourage parents of 10-12th graders to consider upgrading your student’s instrument, especially if your student is interested in continuing to play beyond HS. Student model instruments are great through middle school, but as they continue to progress, upgrading to an intermediate or professional model can greatly improve your student’s tone, ability to navigate the instrument, and often unlocks some additional playing capabilities (range/flexibility/etc.)
Often there are other smaller, less expensive upgrades (reeds, mouthpiece, ligature, etc) that we can recommend that also make a big difference.
We recommend that you contact us whenever considering an upgrade. We have a comprehensive knowledge of reputable brands, vendors, and instrument models that would work best for your specific student, and have lots of places to look to score a great deal. AMAZON should NOT be a place to purchase instruments.
